Hey. No news for a while there. But please be sure that the Choplair-network's idleness is just apparent, we're actually doing intense work and are preparing many interesting things for a near future.
Anyhow, we've still got something to show you today... Indeed, we are proud to announce the release of the In the Meat of the Lamb (a parody of Sandra's hit In the Heat of the Night
) promotional video!
Click on the following image to watch it on GoogleVideo:
That music video was recorded on February 2007, under the direction of Dimbra, who also shot most parts. The heavy montage work was performed by Choplair from the Choplair-network, which also handled most technical stuffs. The song in itself is a creation of the Marie-Claire Records label, and is not intended for commercial purpose, by respect towards Sandra's business. Indeed the song as the video are released under the Free Art License.
For more links and information, check out the dedicated page on the Marie-Claire's website.

Hi everyone, and happy new year!
To celebrate the entrance to 2007, we are pround to innaugurate a brand new BBS for the developer and user community of the Choplair-network's softwares.
Powered by PunBB, this place is bilingual (English or French messages are understood) and offer forums dedicated to our main programs (XGngeo, Kana no quiz) as well as a global talking space.
This is fresh, and thus empty, so don't hesitate to fill it a bit by posting some message if you have any problem / comment regarding our projects, or just wan't to say hello. You even don't need to register, and we'll try to provide quick answers.
See ya.

Today, thanks to py2exe, Inno setup and some work, the Choplair-network finally created a simple yet highly practical installer for Kana no quiz to be running out-of-the-box on any Windows platform.
It thus includes, as a single file, the program and all its dependencies: Python interpreter with required modules, as well as the Windows port of the GTK+ library. And by the use of solid LZMA compression, it's only 6MB!
Grab it from the Kana no quiz's download area.
And of course, we'll try to directly bring you such an all-in-one installer with the next stable version releases.
Merry Xmas, Win users (and others). ![]()

Ok, for the serious things, Kana no quiz version 2.0 and XGngeo 17 are on the way. Just be patient!
Cheers.

Ten days ago, the Choplair-network, rather discretly, released Kana no quiz version 1.7!
Transition between past stable 1.5 and future 2.0 releases, this new stable version comes with various changes including:
- Brand new & great kana table window providing a very conveniant way to either view the full kana list (with transcription, and respecting traditionnal order), select the portion to be trained upon, or see high size kana image (by clicking on thumbnails).
- New kana image scaling feature (user may choose the relative size of the kana images which appear during the quiz).
- Optional use of Psyco to increase Kana no quiz's overall speed.
- Removing the Tkinter GUI to keep back the GTK as the unique interface for Kana no quiz.
- etc.
(see the complete Changelog)
Check out Kana no quiz's download area for packages in various formats.
Enjoy.

We are happy to announce, since yesterday, the availability of XGngeo v16 final.
A beta version was already released on august, but this new one comes with numerous bug fixes and improvements such as:
- Support of all-in-one ROM driver file switched to a more flexible ROM driver directory (the new standard since GnGeo 0.7).
- Optional use of Psyco (if module is available) to boost XGngeo's overall speed performance (courtesy of Achraf Cherti).
- The user may now only choose a certain BIOS type when it is available in his/her BIOS directory.
- Ability to customize the background color of available ROMs in the list.
- ROM selection in the list doesn't require double click any more, just single.
- Increased ROM list displaying speed (especialy when
Show available ROM only
option is enabled). - Improved ROM list refreshing feature (now applied just after having updated the ROM directory list).
- etc. etc.
(see the complete Changelog)
You may grab XGngeo 16 from its download area at BerliOS, or have a prior look to the updated screenshot gallery.
Cheers!

We've been informed by an user that current version of Kana no quiz is fully working on the Mac OS X plaform!
Such a thing was technically propable (because of the cross-plaform Python code) but we could not test because of Apple hardware lack. However, since yesterday it's not the case any more, since an OS X user reported us the good news !
With the Tkinter interface, Mac OS X users may thus enjoy Kana no quiz rendered using the native Cocoa engine! GTK interface is still possible but requires an X11 server to run (and isn't Cocoa-rendered
).
Here come some screnshots of Kana no quiz on Mac OS X in action (courtesy of Scott Sanborn):
At last, now we can say the program functionning is attested on the following OSs: GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, Mac OS X. Yeah, that's a nice list!
2006-07-14
One year exactly after the previous version, the Choplair-network is pleased to announce the immediate release of a beta version for the upcoming XGngeo 16.
Thought it is firstly designed for testing purposes, this release, since the previous version 15, comes with a great bunch of new exciting features which are already stable and widely usable by the end users who want to enjoy the currently best Neo Geo gamming experience ever available on Unix!
Major changes include: support for multiple ROM directories in the ROM list (which now perfectly detects ROMs using GnGeo directory scanning), bunch of new params support (hardware surface, transparancy pack, 68K and Z80 CPUs clocking, new benchmark mode...), full Hot Keys support (independently for the 2 players), universal BIOS support, manual ROM selection now featuring automatic ROM detection and optional display of preview image, etc.
The small details that make this release a beta
are the lack of up-to-date interface localization (final release should contains updated translations) and also some little potential bugs you might encounter and are encouraged to be reported to the Choplair-network, in order to prepare the release of a completely fail-safe version 16 of XGngeo as soon as possible!
Interesting links: the XGngeo v16 beta download page, its whole Changelog, the updated screenshots gallery, and the original release announcement.

Before making a new software release announcement soon, we would like to inform you concerning the recent availabily of an Ubuntu (Breezy & Dapper) DEB package for XGngeo, which thus makes easy the installation of our frontend on this distribution. This packages has been realised by Asher256, who should maintain it when next versions appear.
It is simply available by adding the line deb http://asher256-repository.tuxfamily.org breezy main dupdate french to your /etc/apt/sources.list file, the updating the package list by entering sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get install xgngeo to get it installed.

Welcome back everyone, and happy new year!
You should notice it: since the beginning of 2006, we have performed some changes on the website design and, above all, on the way pages content is handled. The Choplair network website is now a wiki (powered by a customized version of Wiclear) which any registered people can edit, for most of the pages.
Moreover, we've left our previous web-hosting, based on a small server owned by a kind friend of ours (Fragnatik, who we thank a lot for his gratitude), and swiched to a professional web-hosting solution, providing higher bandwidth and more reliability (we were victims of hardware issues on Fragnatik's server). By the way, a domain name was offered, so you may also be able to reach our homepage within http://www.choplair.info/, while the adress http://www.choplair.org/ is of course still valid.
However, website evolution is not the only news. A few days ago, on January 1st, our crew released Kana no quiz version 1.4b, fixing a little error in the 1.4 version, which has been released on mid-December, featuring various bug fixes and additions you can see on its Changelog.
We've got over our past, unwilling idleness, and the crew developement force is optimal back again. Thus, this year should be full of project advancements, with the first next releases available very soon. Just wait and see!
2005-11-16
A new Choplair-network crew weblog is now online, reachable from the top menu. There you'll be able to get in touch with our project advancement, day after day (it's still only in French).
2005-11-08
There is no release for today. Because of external annoyances, we have been obligated to pass through a rather dead period concerning the development of our projects. That situation should get improved in the following days though, and fresh news would be brought thereafter.
Otherwise, during that time, we got aware that certain people were encountering a bug within the current XGngeo version, as they wanted to load a Rom from the list.
We investigated and it appeared to be an abnormal PyGTK behaviour, which does affect some versions of that library. Nevertheless, that problem may be fixed easily and will of course be out of the next XGngeo release.
Anyway, if you are using XGngeo version 15 and experiencing such an issue, we put online a page explaining the method to fix it up.
2005-07-28
We put an eyes-candy HTML version (generated using texi2html) of the current XGngeo documentation directly readable online.
2005-07-15
After the recent release of Gngeo 0.6.5 beta, another event is striking the GNU/Linux Neo Geo emulation scene...
The Choplair-network is really pround to announce that yesterday, on July 14th, more than half past a year since the previous version, a new major release of our famous Gngeo frontend came out: XGngeo version 15!
Compared to prior versions, the number of modification in this release is rather impressive (Changelog is fifty lines long!). It includes:
- Fix of all bugs found in the previous version, and preventing new ones.
- Loads of GUI enhancements, and replacement of the GTK+ deprecated widgets.
- Big configuration panels reorganization, with now 3 different windows: Important paths, Global emulation and Other things.
- Improvements on the Rom list window which now features, for the first time ever in a Gngeo frontend, the possibility to set Rom-specific emulation options! ^___^";
- Support added for joystick options, bigger windowed screen size and Raster effect params.
- Better key configurator which, among other, now displays the key names in place of their SDL values
- Displaying warning messages which may be returned by Gngeo.
- Really fleshed out documentation, explaining many things in detail.
- etc. etc.
To sum up, this new XGngeo version's just a revolution! Get yours now! Feedback and contributions are welcome... Enjoy!
2005-07-06
Hey, nice to meet you again! As you can see, our previous news was posted a while ago. Actually, our website got inaccessible after our web hoster encountered an hard disk crash which caused its complete data deletion (that's a problem, those sheeps which only buy cheap hardware!), including recent database entries. The Choplair-network last news thus disapeared, but also Marie-Claire weblog entries during more than a month. We consequently decided to take out the weblog for a moment... But at last, we are back! The website's now alright and we chose to create a mirror on another server for precaution (link bottom). On top of all, you'll shortly be able to see new realeases of the softwares which we have still been working on, in spite of our absence on the web. Stay tuned!
By the way, we put back (a bit late) an intro page demonstrating against the adoption by the European Parliament, this afternoon, of the Software Patent directive, in its current disgraceful form.
2005-04-25
The Choplair-network is pround to introduce the first stable release of its new project: Nihongo conjugator.
As its name sounds, Nihongo conjugator is a little program which is aimed to display a full conjugation table of any Japanese verb or verbal adjective, from one of its form which you entered.
Using the GTK+ interface, this program is designed to run formely on Unix platforms, but can also work on other OS.
The main feature of this initial version 0.2 is conjugation, in some tense, of Ichidan, Godan and some irregular verbs, and of verbal adjectives.
Nihongo conjugator is going to get quickly evolved. Stay tuned!

By the way, the development of Nihongo Conjugator is in progress...
2005-02-15
This news is important if you are using Kana no quiz, the leading-edge kana memorization tool which we develop.
This morning, someone has reported to us that he had found a bug in the last 1.2b version of our program. We've quickly made investigations and, once it happened that he was right, we've done our best to fix it. It was not so easy because a big reorganization of the kana engine was necessary. However, tonight I can say that it has been completely corrected!
Consequently, a new version of Kana no quiz has just been released. You are strongly invited to download it.
Our development crew really apologies for this annoyance... The next time, we won't drink so much before making a release!
2005-02-09
Release of Kana no quiz 1.2b. This minor version fixes a small bug and indicates which type of interface is used.

) ! Enjoy.
